Bedroom Feng Shui

In traditional Feng Shui, the bedroom is one of the most important rooms in the home. Explore traditional approaches to creating a calmer, more restful bedroom.

Bed placement

Place the bed in the commanding position where possible: with a clear view of the door, not directly in line with it, and with a solid wall behind the headboard.

Doors and windows

Avoid placing the bed directly beneath a window or between a door and window, where traditional practice suggests energy moves too quickly.

Mirrors

Mirrors that face the bed are traditionally discouraged in the bedroom, as they are associated with active, restless energy.

Colors and layout

Softer, skin-toned and earthy colors are often recommended. Keep the space beneath the bed clear and give both sides of the bed similar access where possible.

Common mistakes

Work materials in view of the bed, overhead beams above the bed, and stored clutter are among the most common issues traditionally addressed in the bedroom.
