The Commanding Position

The commanding position is one of the most widely used Feng Shui principles. It places your bed, desk or main seat where you can see the door without being directly in line with it.

The principle

Traditionally, facing the door from a supported position — ideally with a solid wall behind you — is associated with a sense of security and command over your surroundings.

Many people also simply find it more comfortable not to have their back to the entrance.

When the layout does not allow it

If you cannot move furniture into the commanding position, a mirror placed so you can see the door is a commonly used traditional adjustment.
